How many of you would be willing to drive to Bowling Green, KY for a well-priced dyno-tune day?

If the price is right and depends on when it is.

pcmforless

I usually do it for $1k per day, that covers expenses pretty well. you guys get 5 cars and its $200.. not bad considering most dyno tuners charge $500-$600

Man i undersell myself... ehh.. oh well its fun.

smoknta
06-24-2005, 06:21 AM
Is that the price if you already have a tune from you or does the price not change?

You just split the $1000 between how many cars come correct? How many can you do in a day?

So it would be your price plus whatever the dyno costs correct?

pcmforless
06-24-2005, 06:28 AM
i usually psend $700 on airfair, hotel, food, adapters and not to mention 2-3 days of my time.. so finally ijust set the price at $1000 a day.

I swear evertime I try and sit down and take a break I get called off on a line call. Gotta love operator error. Anyway......

That is a pretty good deal. So you can do more than 5?

Anyone know what dynos are Bowling Green, Ky? Can anyone get us a pretty good deal. There is a dyno here in Evansville, IN but I think that is farther for everyone that has been posting about this dyno day. I dont think the one here in town would give us a very good deal either, but I can check. I do know the owner.

I'm at home, dial-up, I'll try to find the post (tomorrow) that had some fellow mentioning a dyno shop that could set us up very cheaply in Bowling Green.

I'll try to PM him and get him tracking more specific info down.

I am tentatively planning to try shoot for the mid-August timeframe so we can get plenty of participants, nail down the logistics, etc.

I think it might be Horse Power House Dyno. Check this link out:

http://www.kyfbodies.org/vb/showthread.php?t=16402

These guys just had a dyno day. Its a guy that has a dyno at his house. Evedentely he had the old Total Engine Airflow building, the insurance was to much for him. He was only charging about $20 for 3 pulls. He might be able to give us a pretty good deal.

Count me in. Just let me know a tentative date so I can get it off.

The owner's name is Danny Cheetham, he seems to be a great guy.

Thats where I had my car dynoed this past Saturday, it would BE GREAT if we could have a dynotuning day there.

Was it a pretty nice setup? Was the dyno nice? What kind of pricing did he charge?

JKDZ28
06-28-2005, 02:18 AM
4 pulls for $20

Yes it was a nice set up, Dynojet 224x w/ wideband

Very convienant location for me...only took approx. 2 hrs to get there...very straight forward.

smoknta
06-28-2005, 02:22 AM
I think it would be about 1.5 hrs for me
We've got a dyno here in town, I think it is the same one he has but he charges like 75 for 3 pulls. $20 bucks is so cheap. Did he let anyone do any tuning? Wonder if he charges more if you are tuning.

JKDZ28
06-28-2005, 02:24 AM
I don't know if he lets dynotuners come in or whatever, I don't know much about him or his place.

He let people do "minor" personal tuning... minor because there was 15-20 cars being dynoed.

Teeeman
06-28-2005, 01:52 PM
Can someone familiar with the shop that had the great rate on 4 pulls ($20) take the ball and get in touch with him?

I'm going to start a list of interested parties sometime later today.

We'll need at least 5 guys who will front money directly to Alvin for this to work...

I'm in if we can get a lock-down on price for August... it is going to take me that long to finish what I'm doing to the car... and it is not mods, just repairs (silly stuff, blown speaker, dysfunctional window motor, drooping exhaust pipe, clunky windshield wiper linkage, plugs and wires, broken boost gauge, new headliner).

Terry

End of July would be better for me, but I would probably do August if thats the only time we can do it. I think we should try to round up more than 5 so the price is cheaper. I think we have 3 already.

pcmforless

End of july is off limits. Any time in augest is fine with me.. If it happens late auguest threw the rest of the year it will have to be on a weekend.

JKDZ28
06-28-2005, 05:36 PM
Sometime in August works great for me, I also have some work to do before then.

Alvin could you tune a 96 Formula, I have a buddy that wants a dynotune and may or may not want in for this if you can?

pcmforless

Yep,

actually I can do everything but 98's.. just tell them that they must check in with me/bryan first.

So far there are 2 "for sure's!":

JKDZ28
Teeeman

If you should be on this list, chime in and I'll add you.

I have contacted by e-mail the dyno guy... waiting for quote.

Alvin can tune anything GM '84 or newer EXCEPT '98s, and Ford EEC-IV cars.
This is 5.0L Mustangs, LT1/LT4s, LS1/LS6s, and lots of other engines (i.e. trucks, Gen III F-bodies and C4 'Vettes, lots of different cars!)

Tell your friends!

We need at least 8 folks or this event will be canceled.

pcmforless
06-28-2005, 08:31 PM
Why do you need 8?

If we only get 5 it wil only be $200 per car which is really reasonable still
...

Teeeman
06-28-2005, 08:49 PM
Well, OK... I was shooting for $150-$175 per car, and to make the event profitable for you, Alvin :)

I think we can get more than 5, but if 5 (minimum) works, then so be it :)

As stated earlier, Danny Cheatam is the owner. My name is Jessie. I help do some of the mechanic work and tuning for the shop. The 20 dollars we charged for the dyno day was a promotional deal to help draw attention to the shop. By no means could he stay in business for 20 bucks. ;) We would be glad to work up a package price for the dyno or do it by the hour though so who ever is organizing this get in touch with one of us.

Thanks Jessie

I have spoken with someone about this. I was told an hour max per car. Is this about right? I gave them a price of $35.00/car. Now while this is not as cheap as 20.00/car, it is still a super cheap deal. Since this is so cheap there will be a couple of stipulations, (you knew there had to be a catch didn't you?) The time limit will be one hour per car, if this time is exceeded there will be an extra charge. And the 2nd being that we will not be responsible for strapping down the vehicles. You all may designate someone from your group or make the car owner do it or however you all choose. And ofcourse the usual one. The Horsepower House is not responsible for your vehicle if you blow it up. But I do have a truck and trailer and will haul your car home for a fee. :D

Teeeman

I think $35/car for tuning with wideband is an outrageously good deal!

I hope we can stir up 3 more folks... :)

Tell you friends... Alvin can tune anything '84-newer (GM), except '98 LS1s.

He can tune some Ford cars too, in particular 5.0L (EEC-IV) cars.

Teeeman
06-29-2005, 07:20 PM
Just to be sure I was clear, Alvin charges $200/car for SD LT1s, he needs to be polled for a quote on the other styles of vehicle (he's at chips@pcmforless.com).

The dyno is an additional expense at $35.

And don't forget $15 for Hooters after we finish, and $2 to chip on on Alvin's supper (least we could do for him, he doesn't make much money on these trips).

Terry

JKDZ28
06-29-2005, 08:23 PM
I thought it was (if we get 5) $200 for any vehicle?

Hooters sounds good to me. :D

Don't we need to set a date or something?

pcmforless
06-29-2005, 08:36 PM
I think theres some confusion..

My price is $1k per day for up to 5 cars. After that its $33 bucks per car.. That allows me to target the price between 150 and $200 bucks. It also allows me to cover the flight expenses hotel etc.

Now, I can't undersell bryans stuff so if anyone needs a flash car tuned tell them to contact me directly.

$35 dallors is an outstanding deal for dyno time. You guys may want to pay $40 or $50 if they will strap down the cars.. Strapping them down isn't that bad but its time consuming and a pain in the ass. On top of that i'm usually rushing equipment over onto the next car.

Teeeman
06-29-2005, 08:40 PM
I wanted a Saturday... how about August 23rd?

We still need 3 more participants... spread the word, post on your favorite forums, etc.

Terry

red91z
06-29-2005, 09:01 PM
I'll say that we would strap and unstrap for 50 per car instead of 35. Just keep in mind that if you strap the cars down you are also responsible for straps. Meaning burned or damaged straps due to stupidity will have to be paid for. :p

Teeeman
06-29-2005, 09:52 PM
I didn't know there was any other way to run the dyno than to strap the cars down...

Am I missing something?

You can dyno w/out straps?

The $35 price doesn't NOT include straps but it does include wideband?!?!?

(my head is starting to hurt)

I think he is meaning that if you damage/burn their straps that you are responsible for replacing them. That if you hook them up wrong they could possibly get damaged.

So lets say we have "8" cars. At $33 for each car over 5 is roughly $1100.

So 8 cars into $1100 = $137.50 per car?

And if you only get 5 cars its $1000? which is $200 per car?

What do you charge for a flash tune on a 1996 Formula/1995 Z28 or whatever?

I'll have the intersted parties contact you, or post here.

red91z
06-29-2005, 10:19 PM
If you read above a bit it says that you guys are responsible for strapping the cars down. Meaning no manual labor for us. ;) If you want us to get dirty then we will have to work out something different. We have straps that you all will use either way. Hopefully that makes sense.

Another question Alvin.

Let's say we only have 5 people coming. 1 hour each on the dyno.

We use their dyno for $35 /hr.

It's $200 per car, then add $35 on top of that for our rental fee?

I think I can answer, Alvin step in if I'm wrong...

YES, you are correct, the $35/car is IN ADDITION TO the price for tuning.

Alvin's tuning expense is totally separate from the Dyno shop.

Alvin gets his money at $1000 flat with 5 cars or less, plus $33 each car additional above 5 (i.e. 6 cars, you add $33 to $1000 = $1033... then you can split the cost 6 ways... $1033/6 =$172/car... just as an example).

You still owe the dyno owner $35 for each car, paid by each individual.

Honestly the biggest issue now is that bowling green doesn't have a airport. Even with a full 5 cars I usually end up with less than 200 bucks in my pocket.. Its hard to make that worth 3 days of my life.

I haven't forgot about it i'm still workign

im definately interested. im located in cincinnati, 0h. so thats not to far of a drive for me.

So for 200 To Alvin you will get a tune and everything taken care of, and then individually youll pay the dyno $35. That sounds like a deal to me.

Ok here we go guys,

I know probally some of you kinda want to rush this along but its been in my and others best interest to plan it out atleast 30-60 days.

I would highly reccomend getting it setup near the F-body gathering in bowling green KY at the Vette plant. The dates are Sept 15-17th I personally wouldn't mind attending this and It would be worthwhile for my trip.

Here are the bottom line pricing..
$1000 for the day. up to 5 cars. I'm going to require a upfront deposit from everyone. If someone wants to collect and give the money to me in person thats fine.. But i'm going to need 50% deposit before I buy my flight tickets etc.

Elite spark plugs will be doing a dyno day for the entire show (15th-17th). He shot me a ball park figure of $500 a half day. Bryan also plans on attending.

Whoever is organizing this can contact James at Elite spark plugs at
732-310-2498 or sales@elitesparkplugs.com

If you guys want to use the other guy thats fine with me, but I would like to set it up on the same dates because I plan on attending that show anyways.

If anyone has any questions please give me a call. This is going to be a pretty tough trip as bowling green has no airports, lets make this one count.

I'd really like to know what the black Ram Air car is making :) :)

The local shop here in H'ville posts dyno graphs by default, unless you ask for no-post.

Also, put some stuff up on those other project cars. Hard to tell from the photos, but looks like some slick rides.

As for the dyno, doing it at the show would be much more convienent, but HorsePower House is giving us a heck of a deal and he said its within 5 miles of the Corvette Museum.

What you done to her?

There is (actually, was, it got wrecked) a '98 SS with long tubes, big MAF meter, and a good cam making 398rwhp on (I hope I'm quoting this right) stock heads locally!
It was also for sale, I was trying to talk to the guy about it, he was having severe cold feet... then he wrecked it... he dropped a rear wheel off the pavement in a turn, and the car started to fish, so he brilliantly nails the gas to be macho and "power out of it"... he ended up in a ditch.
Sad loss.
