I need some help with some possibilities why i'm getting code 16 distributor less ignition system circuit according to my auto x ray scanner. I went to line up make a run at the track, I put it in reverse and it stumbled and died real quick, started back up no problem, did my burnout and started to stage and it died again, now it just cranks, getting 4.8 volts to the distributor. Car ran fine up untill that point.

Sounds like the opt sensor just failed.

You might want to replace the optispark.

That should get you headed in the right direction. One thing to check would be to look for corrosion at the opti harness to opti plug. If that's corroded you could be getting a false DTC 16.

Well that pretty much narrows it down to either faulty harness connection or the opti, the harness is clean and has a good connection, the opti i'm sure is the original with 116k on it so....think i'll clean the harness again and clear the code and see what it does. Thanks guys.

Sounds like you got good use out of that stock opti....I put 105K on my stocker.

Ok cleaned the opti harness connections plug them back in and it starts right up. Seams to run just as good as before, They werent that dirty though is what gets me. Guess i'll keep an eye on it and see if it happens again.

Good to hear that it's running again. Those harness' can be really fickle at times. I just had the same thing happen on my car a couple of weeks ago actually. Just keep an eye on it.

I'm sure alot of people change out the opti only to find out it was a dirty harness.

Took the car out last morning ran fine for about 3.5 miles then started to sputter cutting in and out reving up and down a little did that for about a minute, then it cleared up, then about another mile started real bad and eventually died on me minute or two later. Checked to make sure I have fuel pressure and other good connections, then it started up about 30 mins. later, didnt drive it though to see if it would do it again, didnt want to died somewhere. Does this still sound like the opti.

If that's the case it just might be the opti. Are you still getting the DTC 16??? If not, something else to check would be the ICM, it could possibly be overheating and shutting down on you, then working fine once it's cooled off.

Not getting dtc 16, driven it three times sense and it hasnt acted up, doesnt seem quit 100% perfect running but not nowhere enough to where it acts like it wants to die. I also though maybe the icm but after I drove it it was cool touching it, and if that was the case that night at the track it had plenty off time to cool off and it didnt start.

Ok now I'm getting dtc 36, no 16 though haven't driven the car more than a handful of miles sense the week before thanksgiving. The car cranks for a few seconds and barley starts up. Still getting 4.8 volts at the harness. Anyone have a flow chart for dtc 36. Pretty sure the opti is done.
