I wanted to go woth a custom grind, but I lack the tunning software to shoot back the data to Alvin. So I'm thinking about sticking with a safe cam that a lot of people have ran, namley a CC306. Now I imagine y'all have tunned a great many due to it being so popular, is it prety safe to get right on in the first tune? I remember some one mentioning that a lot of people use it for a base tune for other big cams, so i'm guessing the tunes prety solid?

Let's just say that at the last PA dyno day we did, a guy drove from Albany (YES, ALBANY, six hours away, and in the snow at that) to get down.......CC306 on stock heads, A4, ect, baseline tune from Alvin. He didn't change anything while they were on the dyno.

How's that? :D

I need a CAM bad! haha

and the CC306 seems like a pretty darn good off the shelf cam.

Yea, any of the "popular" off the shelf cams should be easy for Alvin to pin you down a tune.

As far as "safe"... hmmmmm...

I'd say any cam that won't blow up or bite when you try to install it :p

I think Alvin has a large number of popular combinations in "off the shelf" format now.

Give him a shout (chips@pcmforless.com) and talk it over.

Most all of the off the shelf comp cam grinds are pretty easy along with the common cams like the 847, 846, hotcam etc..

Whatever else can usually be matched up with one of the above with pretty good results.

Thanks,

That's going to be tough doing cam only. You've got to have a "complete" package......best of luck to ya in that endeavour.

The car willl have heads, well worked ones at that. I know the car they were on and it ran real good, so I'm hoping it makes the power. I have seen some nice h/c LT1s latley running great, just hope mines is no different. The shop thats going to do the heads was suggesting going to a custom grind, but I dont know what kind of tunning that will entail to get the most power. I know what kind of power a off the shelf cam is capable off, and for as fast as I want to go, should have the power.

Comming off a 9 sec LT1 :p

Your car runs pretty good, what cam are you running?

I've seen people with heads and cam barely run your times and trap.

Thanks and sorry, I havent checked this thread in a while. Right now, the car doenst have a cam in it. I was running the cc305, then the xe 227/233, and now Im about to put something bigger in it. I know bigger isnt always better but with the numbers and times Ive seen from the 847, I figured Id give it a try. Plus, I get bored not working on my car so I do little stupid stuff like this to tide me over for a little while, haha. Im also stepping up to LT's from my old MACs which have served me very well but are simply worn out. Plus, on top of everything else, one of my best friends is building a 389(gonna be a MONSTER!!!!) to put in his 93 Z so Im getting all of his "hand-me-downs". :D

That must be one hell of a light car! Any idea what it traps?

Sorry to steal your thread, Neil. Did you happen to figure out what cam youre going with?

It sounded like it was gonna cut off inbetween lopes. I think thats a bit bigger than the "safe" cam that Neil is searching for.

Frank Bs car traps like 115-116, still havent decided, might go with a custom from Combo. Same price as a new off the shelf

Franks car is fairly light though. Right?

When I saw it at No Problem, it was on 15" rims with skinnies up front, and if I remember correctly, the interior was pretty bare. Think he had only 1 plastic racing seat in it. It was a couple of years ago when I saw it though, so maybe I'm thinking of another car, but I don't think so....

dude just do the lt4 hotcam. You do that with supporting mods and a little port work on your heads and you will rape ls1's.

if your gonna do a cam you might as well put a bigger cam in than the Lt4, its pretty small in by book.
